Hello! Earlier this month I took a road trip from College Station, Texas to Telluride, Colorado for a short little 3 day getaway! This cute little quiet mountain town couldn’t be a better place for a little break from reality. This time of year all the trees are changing to beautiful vibrant fall colors. With panoramic views so everywhere you look you won’t be disappointed. This small town offers 90 public hiking trails, a free public gondola that gets you to Mountian Village from Telluride, fun restaurants, and places to shop!
Day one-
I’ll consider the day we got there day one. We got to telluride about 1 pm we walked around town, we rode the free gondola to Mountain Village. We grabbed a little snack/ lunch at Poacher’s Pub I highly recommend the sweet potato fries! After lunch, I desperately needed a nap, after being up for nearly 36 hours I took an hour nap. We then ran to grab dinner at High Pie Pizzeria & Tap Room I almost didn’t mention this one. We didn’t have the best experience but we could have just caught them on a bad day. I got the champagne salad after they were out of their chili.
day two-
I really wanted to go to The Butcher & The Baker for breakfast. Boy oh boy was it incredible. I got the breakfast burrito with pork sausage, sweet potatoes, black beans, salsa, and eggs. I could honestly eat that breakfast for the rest of my life. We were waiting for my grandparents to drive into Telluride to meet us. While we waited, we walked about a mile up a trail that was close to our condo.
Once my grandad arrived we rode the gondola to Mountain Village and grabbed coffee. We took the gondola back to Telluride and walked the trail by the San Miguel River and enjoyed the views of the mountains. We went to the New Sheridan Hotel and sat rooftop for a drink. For dinner, we went to Smugglers Union Restaurant and Brewery. I got the grilled chicken & wild mushroom linguine. ohhhhhh myyyyy goshhhh. that’s all. we spent the rest of the evening riding the gondola and taking awesome pictures of the night sky!!
day three our last day-
On day 3 we went to Ouray. On the way from Telluride, you pass the Double R L Ranch in Ridgeway. If you don’t know this is Ralph Laurens ranch. It’s stunning there’s a pull-off for you to enjoy his beautiful views. You have to snap a picture of his mountain range- I wish I was kidding. From there we went to the Cascading Falls which was really cool because the terrain is so different than Telluride. It was super pretty!
We then headed to Box Canyon Falls. This setup was really nice. There are stairs and metal platforms for you to walk on all the way to the view! We only did the lower falls not the upper because we didn’t want to push my grandparents. Don’t worry it was a fair trade off we grabbed lunch at Ouray Brewery I got the fried buffalo chicken salad with ranch- my mouth is already watering. By the way, the salad was HUGE.
After lunch, we headed back to Telluride and hiked Bridal Veil Falls. This hike was HARD for a Texas gal but the views were worth it! I know we didn’t hike the whole thing but we made it to the second waterfall before it started getting dark. I can’t imagine the view from the top, we just didn’t have time and for sure should have hiked it in the morning if you want to do the full thing!
leaving-
We got up at 3 in the morning to start our drive home, leaving by 3:30 (poor timing on our part just because we had to get home and ready for work and school that next morning). We were told to drive the Million Dollar Highway because it has stunning views. we thought we would have enough morning glow by the time we got there to kinda see. we ended up having some weather on most of the drive there for sure enough to ruin our chances of seeing the views at all. on the top of the mountain we hit a blizzard (kinda being dramatic, kinda not). I was thankful I wasn’t driving it was incredibly stressful even being in the passenger seat. All in all, we had an incredible trip the drive is a beat down but totally worth Telluride. My only complaint is we couldn’t stay longer!
