I have been doing my own dip nails for about 2 months now. It took a few tries to get the hang of it honestly there is still room to improve. I started doing my own dip nails because I truly enjoy doing my own nails, but polish chips too fast. I also had a hard time justifying paying $40 to get my nails done so I decided to start doing my own dip nails at home!
What you need:
+ dip nail bonding kit
+ nail file
+ buffing block
+ cuticle pusher and nippers
+ cuticle oil
the process-
I start by filing my nails to the shape and length I want. I use a glass nail file for this it keeps my nails smooth! Removing your cuticles is super important because if you get the dip powder on the skin it will lift up when your nails grow out.
When everything is set I use a buffing block to ruff up my nails. This step helps the dip to have something to hold on to. Start with number 1 in the bonding kit. This step removes any oil and gives your nail a clean base. Right after I brush on the number 2. Go one nail at a time and you have to work fast because this dries fast. Once it’s brushed on dip your nail into the powder, and move on to the next nail! When all of your nails have the first layer of dip on both hands, use a clean makeup brush to wipe away all the excess powder. Repeat the number 2 and dip and brush off the excess. You can do this as many times as you need to. I do two coats of dip for a more natural thickness!
Now it’s time to seal it with the number 3, I do two coats of the sealer to make sure everything is nice and set. Then file the edges use the file to remove and powder that may have gotten on your skin. Use the buffing block over all the nails to smooth out the surface, after buffing do 2 coats of the number 4 to get the shiny top coat!
lastly…
At this point, it has taken me multiple tries to get it down and I still haven’t perfected doing my own dip nails, but it’s worth not having to go to the salon to have them done! Doing dip nails at home has saved me time and money and honestly, I enjoy the process! I would highly recommend giving this a shot! Doing my nails at home with time has offically lasted me 3 weeks!
