I know blue light blocking glasses are all the hype right now but do they really work? Disclaimer- I’ve never read any articles on this topic I just wanted to talk about my personal experience! 2 years ago when I got my eyes checked my optometrist said that she didn’t recommend it, and that she thought it was a marketing scheme. She didn’t think there was enough science to back up the benefit. However, she told me she would let me know if anything changed!
Fast forward to 2020 everyone is doing school from home and working from home. Personally I look at the computer screen for at least 8 hours a day not to mention all the other screens I look at through the day… This year I decided I would add the blue light filter to my prescription glasses. My optometrist said she thought it would help with me straining my eyes which is why I wear glasses anyways!
thoughts.
I’ve had my glasses now for a week. First let me say this, I think the blue light filter has helped. I think my eyes don’t feel as exhausted after a long school day. I also need to add that my prescription did increase slightly so that may pay a roll in the fact that my eyes just feel better.
Since I know this is a huge question, is there a visible tent? I was really worried about this honestly. Since I am a graphic design student I do work with a lot of colors, with that being said I need to be able to see the true color. Yes, there is a peachy, yellowy tent, and yes, it is noticeable. When I’m looking at the computer screen it really doesn’t bother me and I feel like it doesn’t skew the color that far off. But, when I’m looking outside I do notice the colors being a little off. The green of the grass isn’t as vibrant, and the same with the blue of the sky. Everything looks a little more gold. But like I said this isn’t a deal breaker especially since my vision isn’t bad enough to not be able to see without my glasses.
on that note…
I honestly feel like yes the blue light filter helps. If you’re considering getting blue light blockers then you should! Even if you don’t need a prescription and you are on the computer a lot then you should try them! There are plenty of cute options on Amazon. For prescriptions ask your eye doctor to add the filter. Also, Warby Parker has super cute affordable prescription glass with the blue light filter add-on option! (starting at $95) These are my honest thoughts on blue light blocking glasses, I really hope this helps! I’ll link some cute styles!
