This past weekend I went to Telluride, Colorado! This is the first weekend in October we left on Wednesday, October, 3rd. We had 3 days to enjoy the breathtaking color changing of the fall. The temperature ranged from a low of 34 degrees to 60 degrees, the air was so crisp and cold compared to the 90 degree weather here in Texas! Though the 4 day trip was short I have a few things I would totally recommend to ANYONE from the college gal on a budget to heckin’ Oprah (she has a house here, what?!).
Places to eat:
LUNCH/ DINNER
High Pie: This was a beautiful restaurant with delicious food, and a stunning atmosphere. The menu includes Pizza, Subs, wonderful salads, and the best chili I’ve ever tasted. On the menu they claim this white chicken chili is a number 1 award winning dish… I totally believe it! With a little bit of heat, topped with cheddar cheese and two slices of a seasoned baguette this bowl was heaven on a chilly day!
Brown Dog pizza: We went to this little restaurant for lunch on the second day, and WOW. We ordered a large pizza with pepperoni, red onions, green bell pepper, jalapeños, and a side of Ranch dressing of course. OH MY GOSH, this was amazing! Brown dog was a casual set up with several different TV’s each with football or baseball on, very laid back. Topped with cute puppy pics of brown Labradors on each wall.
Taco del Gnar: Think Torchey’s… but in the mountains and a little more quaint. Gnar had a wild and rare selection of tacos, laid back atmosphere, and great customer service… what more could you want? I got the yard bird taco, the chicken was shredded and was topped with cabbage coated in a delicious dressing hugged by a warm flour tortilla. YUM.
BREAKFAST
The Butcher & Baker Cafe: This cafe was right up my alley with the aesthetic… farmhouse with white walls, gray counter, and light wood floors. Anyways after I stopped drooling over the decor, I ordered the breakfast sandwich with bacon, eggs and cheese. the sandwich was made in a english muffin and was so so tasty, and very filling as well. The fresh squeezed orange juice topped off the breakfast, slightly sweet, freshly squeezed, with light pulp. Unfortunately we weren’t able to make it there for the lunch hour but I’m sure it was just as fresh and delicious!
Baked in Telluride: This is the local bakery with a hometown feel. This is perfect for the on the go quick bite to eat type of a thing. They have an assortment of freshly baked goods that include donuts that are the size of your head, bagels with homemade cream cheese, breakfast tocos and toast. I ordered a plain bagel, toasted, with cream cheese, The bread was fresh and the homemade cream cheese was way better and smoother then any brand at your local store. I also got a huge chocolate donut with sprinkles and I have to say it was almost as good as the shipley’s chocolate iced donut! (That’s saying a lot!)
Things to do:
Dave’s Jeep tour: This is the one thing I can’t recommend enough! Our tour guide was the owner Dave he was set on giving us an amazing tour with breathtaking views each way you looked. We learned about so many amazing things, my favorite story was about the Tomboy Town which was a former gold mining town with views to die for. We then moved up to Imogene pass with views of the mountain ranges on the Telluride and Ouray from 13,114 feet up in the air.
The Telluride Gondola: This is a free ride up and down the mountain to connect the town of Telluride and Mountain Village. Beautiful fall colors all the way up and down the the mountain, and the occasional sight of mule deer and elk.
Shopping: A few of my favorite store were-
Telluride Trapping & Toggery: women & men fashion- tee shirt shop too
Patagonia: Outerwear
Two skirts: Upscale fashion
Sublime: Upscale fashion
Mountain Village: Mountain village offers plenty of fun restaurants, coffee shops, and more shopping.
